You've spent so long deciding where you want to go and eventually, that glorious booking confirmation has come through but there's still quite a lot of things you need to think about before you jet off on that holiday.
In this blog, I'll outline some of the key things to remember when travelling and I'll try to provide some key travel hacks to help you out!
If you click on most of my affiliate links and make a purchase, I am going to receive a tiny commission. AND… Most of the time, you will receive an offer. Win/Win! The products that I'm telling you about here are the ones I use and believe in!
How to withdraw that dosh
It's normally best to avoid getting currency before you leave home. And definitely, don't go anywhere near the currency exchange kiosks at the airports!
Make sure you have a no-fee foreign cash withdrawal card with you - I suggest either Starling or Chase debit cards. Both these cards allow you to withdraw cash with no transaction fees around the world. Cash withdrawals will be charged at the daily MasterCard rate (instead of some other cards that charge nasty extras!)
When withdrawing cash at an ATM, the ATM will often ask you if you'd like to "lock in the conversion rate at the ATM" - always press 'decline conversion'. By doing this, your bank will use the official rate to determine the exchange rate to be applied instead of an inflated rate which foreign ATMs may charge.
An alternative is to use Western Union around the world to withdraw cash. By using the Western Union app, you can transfer money and withdraw at stores around the world for very low fees.
